The dream world had been their sanctuary.

In the waking world, she and he were strangers, weaving through crowded streets without a glance. But in sleep, they slipped into each other’s arms: explorers charting hidden realms, eternal companions.

One evening she murmured, “What if we met in reality?”

He lingered at the threshold of a dreamscape, voice soft. “You’d know me.”

A tremor slid through her chest when he promised it. She woke with her pulse echoing in her ears.

Later, on a station platform, she tightened her grip on the strap of her bag, eyes flicking to the arrival board. He stepped forward with a rolled-up sketch under his arm, paused as if pulled by something unseen.

Their gazes locked.

Recognition flared.

And the train whistle cut through the sudden hush.
